In brief
You can browse and use the core quote experience as a guest. Sign in with Apple is optional. DotQuot does not sell your personal information, run third-party advertising, or include cross-app tracking or third-party analytics SDKs.
Most settings, saved quotes, liked quotes, notification schedules, and similar preferences stay on your device. Your Dots history can sync through your private iCloud account so it remains available across your Apple devices.
Information stored on your device
DotQuot may store saved and liked quote IDs, appearance preferences, notification schedules, guest-mode state, and similar app settings using iOS local storage. Widgets may use shared local app storage so they can display quotes outside the app.
You can remove local information using available controls in the app or by deleting the app. Device backups are controlled by your Apple and iCloud settings.
Private iCloud sync
When iCloud is available, DotQuot stores your Dots history in your private CloudKit database. A Dot can include its calendar date, quote ID, quote text, author, category, and creation date.
Private CloudKit data belongs to your iCloud account and is used to provide Dots history and sync. If iCloud is unavailable, DotQuot can continue using local storage and sync later. This sync is independent of Sign in with Apple.
Sign in with Apple
If you choose to sign in, Apple handles authentication. DotQuot does not ask for or store your Apple ID password. The app stores Apple's app-specific user identifier securely in the iOS Keychain to confirm sign-in status and respond if Apple revokes the credential.
A display name provided by Apple is used for the greeting inside the app. You can continue as a guest instead, and Sign in with Apple does not control your private iCloud Dots database.
Notifications, widgets, Photos, and sharing
Quote notifications are scheduled only when you choose to create or enable them. Their schedules, categories, and pause choices are stored on your device. You can turn notifications off in DotQuot or iOS Settings.
If you save a quote card or wallpaper, iOS may request Photos access. Content shared through the iOS share sheet goes only to the destination you choose and is then governed by that destination's privacy practices.
Quotes and attribution
DotQuot does not claim ownership of quotations merely because they appear in the app. Some quotations have unknown, uncertain, or unavailable attribution. If you believe a quote is incorrectly attributed or should be removed, contact us and we will review it.
Support purchases
When supporter options become available, recurring support and one-time contributions will be processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles payment details and provides DotQuot with the purchase status needed to deliver the associated app experience. DotQuot does not receive your full payment-card details.
Information you choose to send us
If you contact us, we receive the details you provide, such as your name, email address, message, and attachments. We use that information to respond, provide support, protect DotQuot, or comply with law, and keep it only as long as reasonably needed.
The website contact form prepares a message in your email application. DotQuot does not save its contents in a website database.
Feature requests and votes
The roadmap creates a random identifier in your browser so it can remember your votes. Before a live vote is stored, that identifier is converted into a one-way cryptographic hash. It is used to count votes and reduce duplicate voting, not for advertising or cross-site tracking.
Voting data is stored with Supabase while the roadmap remains active, unless longer retention is needed for security or legal obligations. Public feature submissions are not accepted; roadmap ideas are curated from recurring themes in App Store reviews and feedback sent to DotQuot.
Website and service providers
This website does not currently use advertising or analytics cookies. It uses local browser storage for theme preference and the anonymous roadmap-voting identifier. Hosting and network providers may process basic technical logs, such as IP address, browser type, request time, and security events, to deliver and protect the site.
Apple may process information when you use the App Store, iCloud, Sign in with Apple, notifications, Photos, or other Apple services under Apple's own terms and privacy policies.
Sharing, security, and retention
We do not sell or rent personal information. We disclose information only when needed to operate a service you request, to service providers under appropriate safeguards, to protect rights and safety, or when required by law.
We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the information handled, but no storage or transmission method is completely secure. Local app data remains until you remove it or delete the app. Correspondence is retained only while needed for support, recordkeeping, security, or legal obligations.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may ask what personal information we hold about you, request correction or deletion, withdraw consent where applicable, or raise a privacy concern. We may need to verify a request before acting on it. Most local app activity is available only on your device and cannot be retrieved by DotQuot.
Children's privacy
DotQuot is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
Changes and contact
